MOVEit Automation: Capturing connection logging - Diagnostic Test
An easy way to gather connection logging for a specific host.
If you are having issues connecting to a specfic host and unfortantly are unable to tell why there is a simple diagnostic test you can preform to gather additional logging data that can be useful in isolating the root cause for the issue.
First login to the web console of your MOVEit Automation for example Https://localhost
Once the dashboard loads lets create the task we will use to preform the diagnostic test. On the dashboard go up to “Tasks” and select it.
Once the task list has loaded select “Add Task” and then from the drop down select “ New Task”
When the new task wizard pops up select “Traditional” and give the task a name. For this example we will call it
“Connection Test”
When the task configuration screen loads we are going to do the following:
First select “Step” and select “Source”
When the “Add Source” wizard pops up we will select “Load from a local folder”
From here we will select a test file on the local system. This can be anything as its just used
as a test file. For this example we will use a text file called test.txt. Select your test file and
select “Add Source”.
We will repeate the same step as above but this time we will select destination
and select our host we are try to test. In this example I will select
“Upload to an SFTP Server”.
In this example I will select a server called “Block”, This is because i know this
server will give an access denied message as a response for this example.
Once the server is select under folders just type “./” do not select browse.
Then press “Add Destination”.
When finished your task should look similar to the bellow:
Now that the task is complete we will move onto setting up the logging mode to capture the additional information we are looking for.
Select “System” at the top and then select settings.
Once the settings page has loaded, Select edit on “Logging”
The logging wizard should appear, click on the “System Log Level” drop down and then select “All Debug” and select “Save”.
We are now ready to run our “Connection Test” Task. Go back to your task and select “Actions” and then “Run Now”.
Once the task has run please refresh your screen after a few minuets and then on the right hand side you should see
a failed task log as shown below identifed by th number 3. Once you click this you will download the task log.
You have now completed the diagnostic test, At this point please provide this log and your main MOVEit Automation log to us for analysis . Please remember to change your logging mode back to what it was before conducting the diagnostic test.
You can find your main log by going to settings and expanding the “logging” area we visited earlier.
You will be able to identify the log by its name shown below as example 1 and the location shown by example 2
